Hi people, Evil Rick here, it’s been a while I know, I’m currently working on close door with a series of projects I’ll be announcing soon, that an my adult material stuff which I keep on adult websites so I haven’t post much around here lately, sorry for that, I’d like to let you guys know I’ll be making a big update early on November about what’s to come on this page, also would like to thank everyone for the B-Day wishes, but now, I’d like to make a reflection about something.
I’m not part of the Steven Universe fandom, never saw the show, never really cared to, but even I who are totally indifferent to this stuff knew about a situation that happened recently apparently, on how a fellow artists apparently attempted to kill herself because the fandom of SU didn’t liked her drawings based on the show and bullied her with plenty of nasty comments and accusations that went from calling her racist to even asking her to actually kill herself, all because certain individuals didn’t liked her drawings . Not going to go deep on details here, if you want to know more check the link below, I just want to give a small reflection and to send a word directed to other fellow artists who may find themselves in similar situations.
When you’re an artist and your work isn’t offensive to someone, you’re doing something wrong.
Internet is full of annoying people, all from trolls, to offenders, to feminazis and just spoiled brats shielding themselves behind the curtain of anonymity to act like dicks. Among these people however, the most annoying and despicable are those who think they’re bashing and trolling follows a “cause”, those so called ‘Social justice warriors’ who in reality are just the typical white knights looking to be offended who believe is they’re holly duty to save the internet. You know the ones, those who will literally make a storm in a glass of water, complaining and accusing of absurd things the most harmless things (you know the ones, like Yaminoo and her drama campaign over Derpy being ableist or Pinkiepony and her stupid “down with Molestia” movement supposedly to stop rape culture or something ridiculous like that or those morons who call the MARVEL cinematinc Universe misogynistic for not having more movies about female superheroes) yet sadly, they seem to get lot of attention for it, not matter how absurd it really is (common sense, so rare it’s a super power apparently)
Sadly, young and individual artists, looking to leave their mark in the world of art are also victims to this “white knights” and their war for what they understand as “the right thing”, feminist constantly bashing hentai artists for the way they illustrate female body, others called racist from drawing ethnic characters in certain ways, others accused of “ruining fandoms” for the way they visualize certain popular characters, the list goes on and on and it even gets sillier and more stupid the deeper it goes. Some of us artists have stronger shells around us and eventually we learn to deal with that like the morning coffee, but others like this girl seems to be more susceptible to such type of internet harassment. If you’re this kind of artists I have something to tell you.
Your artwork and your skills at drawing or writing or whatever you do are for you to do whatever you want. None is paying you, none is moderating you and as long you show your material in the right place (we’re not going to post porn on websites meant for all the family right? ) you should feel free to keep doing your stuff, because you’re making it because you can and you want to.
Internet is filled with people desperate to be offended about something, because they believe being offended somehow gives them power over others, and if your work becomes good enough, you’ll most likely find these individuals trying to scratch and damage the image of your work, because they want to feel somehow superior to the things you’ve accomplished, they’ll be mean, they’ll be hateful and they even wish for you the worst things you can think of, yes the anonymity can show the worst of the people at times, but just realize this; it’s just a comment, a comment you can scroll down and quickly forget, yes everyone has freedom of speech and everyone has the right to call out the things they don’t like, but you also have the right to don’t listen and ignore, and if you know your work wasn’t made to offend someone, that should be enough for you. For every one hating your work there’s gotta be 5 more who like and love it, it’s up to you the choose which one you prefer listening to.
So, go on, draw your porn, draw your yuri and yaoi, draw your fat chicks, draw your gore, draw your ponies and draw your thin Roses form Steven Universe, if people like it or not, that’s their problem, not yours and if they find if racist, they should know better to just walk away and ignore it, but hey, let’s be honest here, some people out there have opinions so shitty none in real life want to hear them, that’s probably why they want to annoy the hell out of you with it on the internet.
For me, drawing is a full world of oportunties, and unlimited sea of chances to create and share with everybody, I don't draw with pencil or pen, I draw with my soul, and so, I put a piece of myself in each one of my works and characters.
